Nothing is Real (and/or Virtual)

For this project, Alvin Lucier’s work Nothing is Real for piano, teapot and electronic playback was recreated using the Unity3d gaming engine, a Leap Motion controller to track hand position and ChucK.

The Leap Motion Unity plugin was used to track hand translation (height) and rotation (roll) and mapped to the vertical position and angle of rotation for the lid of the teapot. The OSCsharp library was then used to export the teapot’s position and rotation to ChucK. Height was mapped to the Q of a ResonZ filter and roll was mapped to volume.
